Nutmeg is to Shrooms as Mouthwash is to Beer.
Remember that.
Last night I was feeling kind of blah and was really hoping to smoke some dope, but those plans fell through. I went on the internet to try to think of another way to get high that didn't involve huffing paint thinner, (I have done that before... not intentionally... but I was high nonetheless,) and I came across nutmeg as a mild hallucinogenic.
I read that if you eat between .75 grams and 1.25 grams per body weight, you will get high with the effects being similar to being stoned on weed. I read reports where people had skewed auditory trips, but very few people seemed to have any psychedelic visual trips.
A few people had bad trips and had to be hospitalized for nutmeg poisoning. (Those people obviously didn't do their research.)
I read reports of people having convulsions, acting like they were having a seizure, vomiting, constipation, and being dehydrated.
Those side-effects didn`t seem like a big deal to me. People reported being paranoid or aggitated, but giggly, feeling good, having trouble urinating, trouble walking and talking. The most fascinating thing to me was the `thought disorder` or word salad.
I was reading medical journal type articles about nutmeg as well as personal experience stories. The medical journals were saying that you can`t test someone to see if they`re on nutmeg because it`s not going to show up anywhere. Plus, nutmeg isn`t a popular way to get high because of the taste, so nobody really thinks about it when they have some dude having a seizure in front of them.
So health care workers are told to watch out for word salad and thought disorder. Word salad is just a stream of real English words that don`t make sense together in a sentence. And thought disorder is just disordered language and thinking.
Some examples that I found are:
e.g. the question "Why do people comb their hair?" elicits a response like "Because it makes a twirl in life, my box is broken help me blue elephant. Isn't lettuce brave? I like electrons. Hello, beautiful."
During mid speech, the subject is changed in response to a stimulus. e.g. "Then I left San Francisco and moved to... where did you get that tie?"
Replying to questions in an oblique, tangential or irrelevant manner. e.g:
- Q: "What city are you from?"
- A: "Well, that's a hard question. I'm from Iowa. I really don't know where my relatives came from, so I don't know if I'm Irish or French."
Speech that is very delayed at reaching its goal. Excessive long windedness. e.g. "What is your name?" "Well, sometimes when people ask me that I have to think about whether or not I will answer because some people think it's an odd name even though I don’t really because my mom gave it to me and I think my dad helped but it's as good a name as any in my opinion but yeah it's Tom."
Failure to show a chain of though to a natural conclusion. e.g. "Why does my computer keep crashing?", "Well, you live in a stucco house, so the pair of scissors needs to be in another drawer."
Back to this blog now... I can`t type a question mark on this computer. It just shows up as a É and it`s frustrating me. I don`t know how to fix it. I was going to ask, isn`t that crazy.
I thought it would be fun to try nutmeg. This morning I swallowed 1 teaspoon. It wasn`t terrible, but it wasn`t good tasting by any means. I dumped it on a taco chip and shoved a bunch of chips in my mouth so the salt would counter act the nutmeg. Then I swallowed it down with orange juice. My goal was 3 teaspoons. I ate half a teaspoon to start and decided that I`d only take 2 teaspoons. I ate the other half a teaspoon and that was it. I didn`t want to participate anymore!
It`s just as well I supposed. Too much nutmeg can give you liver damage and if you ingest too much or too often (which I wasn`t at risk for) and you can actually go into a comotose state and die.
