Today is my birthday and I am 24.
In my life I've accomplished a few things. I graduated high school without getting pregnant or contracting any sexually transmitted diseases or infections. I graduated from college without getting pregnant or contracting any sexually transmitted diseases or infections, plus I landed a gig at the CBC. I've made some amazing friends; had a lot of laughs. I've traveled a little bit.
"Twenty-four and there's so much more..."
I still struggle with the idea of what I want to do with my life and how I want to contribute to society and the world. I'm still trying to find out who I am and who I would like to be. Depression is a prominent part of my life and it most likely always will be. Birthdays are bittersweet. I've cried on more than one birthday in the past and today is no exception. I haven't even started drinking!
I feel disappointed with myself for not being more, accomplishing more, and not improving with age. All the dinners, the gifts, the cards, texts, and Facebook posts are always so overwhelming and make feel happy while coincidentally making me feel like shit because deep down I feel unworthy.
A birthday is not like any other day to me. It's the beginning of a cycle. It's the beginning of a new year. All the dreams and goals and deadlines I've set for myself get tighter and tighter. Goals change and dreams expire, but it doesn't change the fact that life goes on regardless of what you accomplish.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have a lot left to do and I don't want to wake up one birthday and realize I don't have enough time to do the things I want to do.
I'm relatively young, but nobody can say with certainty how much time left we have.

No Pets Allowed
I have received a second verbal warning telling me that my apartment has a no pets policy.
I did a little research online and I can in fact be evicted for breaching my lease agreement which clearly states no pets allowed. However, I cannot be evicted without first being given a written warning that tells me how long I have to correct the problem.
My cats don't scratch the walls or door frames. They only do their kitty business in the litter box and have never had an accident. I've placed a large cloth mat under my litter box to keep flying litter off the floor. My apartment is as clean as any bachelor's apartment might be. And there's no carpet, so I'm not leaving any pet dander when I move out.
They don't cry incessantly. They wake up before me to play. After I feed them they usually quiet down and then nap for several hours during the day. After the sun goes down they play some more, eat, and go back to sleep. They're good cats. They behave.
Even if I were to get a note, I know I'd be moving out in September anyway. Something I've noticed on Kijiji.ca is that when you search for apartments for rent, they now have more search parameters. You can set your price range, how many bedrooms, how many bathrooms, and even if the building allows pets! That's the best part!
I'm looking forward to moving, eviction or no eviction.

Bitch-Fest
Maybe it's because it's the second day of my period, but I've been in the worst mood for two days! Everything is agitating me and I just want to punch someone in the face.
Today I wanted to wash my bedding because the cats' hair accumulates on it. They're always sleeping in the bed with me and I love it, but after a week or so it can become a health hazard if I don't wash my sheets and comforter regularly.
It's noon. There's nobody else doing laundry. I can easily get everything washed in an hour and a half. I go to the laundry room and it's locked. The resident managers deadbolt it at night so people aren't using the machines after hours. I call them and they're not home. I'm so outraged I called Winpark Dorchester, the company that owns the building to complain. My message goes to voicemail and I'm livid because I know from previous experience that I will not be getting a call back from them. They treat their tenants like shit.
My options are as follows: Drive to the bank, withdraw coins, go to a laundromat and be angry, OR go to my mom's and spend 3 hours doing laundry and be angry.
I chose option two. I'm so mad about it too because now I can't multitask in my apartment. I have to sit here and wait for my goddamn laundry to be done and then go home and get ready for work.
If you'd like to know why nothing ever gets done in my apartment it's because every time I try to complete a task, external forces hinder me and make me want to choke a bitch.
The only thing that keeps my hopes up is that Bob and I might move in together later in the summer once his lease is up. This is not a for sure thing and there's always the possibility that it won't work out, but I have to be optimistic about something in my future or else I'd probably become an arsonist.
Three hours later I get a call from my resident mangers telling me they've unlocked the door and they're going to try to get me a key so I can open it myself. I've called to complain to them about the door 3 times since moving in 4 months ago. I'm still angry in general, but I'm glad that I'll have a key.
