Name Masher

Last night I found this wonderful site: Name Masher

It's incredible.

I LOVE searching the meaning of names and I spend a lot of time on baby-name websites. I was reading articles about where soon-to-be parents can find inspiration for creative and unique names for their child. All the usual stuff was in there.

Nature: birds, flowers, minerals, colours
Places: Cities, countries, landmarks
People: family members, celebrities, heroes, fictional characters

And then they suggested combining two names that you like. So, if you like the names Jennifer and Linda you could combine them into Jennalin or Jenda. See, I just made that up now; it's easy!

I started trying to mash all kinds of names together. It was difficult at first to see where I could drop letters and make something that didn't sound like gobbledy-gook, but with the help of that Name Masher site I started to do pretty well.

Using mine and David's first names, our middle names, my sister's name, and our parents names I came up with these. Some are really ugly, but some I've taken quite a liking too.

Barry + Lawrence = Larry, Bren, Barence, Lawry, Awbry, Arence, Labry, Abrry
Andrew + Lee = Drewlee, Andee, Leean, landre
Chelsea + David = Daea, Davich, Chevid
Corinne + Bonnie = Connie, Cornie, Corie, Brinne, Bonnine, Corbin
Chelsea + Ashley = Cashley, Cashlea, Alsea, Ashlea, Cashel, Ashea
Lennon + Cobain = Cole, Connon, Conon

I was creating names for hours yesterday. It's so fun!! I want to make up baby names for a living.

Mad Max Dream

I got my new book and module to read for my Creative Writing course in the mail. The problem is that I never finished the writing assignment for the last module. I wanted to write about a love affair in the newsroom, but got sidetracked by writing about a family trapped inside their house which is on fire. I gave up on it and never took another stab at it.

I had a crazy dream last night after watching Mad Max II.

In my dream, people who looked like this:
were on top of a short building in downtown Winnipeg. They also owned a dance studio which a friend and I attended secretly. We needed to practice our dance steps and had nowhere to do them.

I went in my CBC van to the location where these crazy marauders were holding someone hostage on the roof. They killed the hostage either with a gun or with an arrow or crosbow or something. I don't know why, but instead of grabbing my camera and rolling on all this I just stood there with my jaw dropped and did nothing. There was a very large crowd of people watching, outraged, as police tried to keep the peace and talk down these convicts.

Without complicating things too much, I went back to the dance studio for a lesson with my friend (while the events unfolding on the roof continued) and saw some leather clad ladies whom I recognized as being part of the rooftop marauder crew. I made the connection that they owned the studio and went inside the bathroom to snoop around.

I pulled a paper towel from the dispenser and it had writing on it. I was being summoned to the rooftop (to be killed I speculated.) That's when I realized how they were picking their victims to kill on the rooftop. It was from the paper towel dispenser and not randomly like everyone else thought.

I never went to the rooftop. I never got killed. Instead I bought these two alien-like vibrators and tried to hide them in my bedroom. Except my bedroom wasn't where my bedroom is now. My bedroom in the dream was my bedroom in the house I grew up in located in Ste. Anne. Except the house wasn't in Ste. Anne, it was in Winnipeg. CBC's Waub Rice was trying to write a story for the local news in a spare room at my house too. And my mom was there in the kitchen marking papers.

There were so many intricate details, when I first woke up I could remember them all and the dream felt very real!

I wish I could just write about my dream and make it into a coherent story somehow and submit it, but it would take forever.

Somalia Refugee

Yesterday a coworker and I had a small discussion about the Somalian man, Mohamed Hagi Mohamud, who gained refugee status in Canada in 1992 when he was 16, but then over the years committed a bunch of assaults and even served jail time. They already tried deporting him in 2004, but he disappeared for a year and then turned up in British Columbia after he brutally sexually assaulted a woman in Surrey.
Follow the link to read the full story on CBC's website.

CBC News - British Columbia - Somali refugee deported for assaults in B.C., Ontario

They've got him now. Deporting foreign criminals is a top priority apparently. I agree. That fucker needs to get out of my country and fast! BUT, here's the twist: Since he's from Somalia, the world's worst place to live, he fears he will be killed once deported. It's not uncommon to fear that. Other people Canada has deported in the past have showed up dead just days later.

My response to that is I don't care if you get hung upside-down and have rats eat you alive in Somalia, I want you deported yesterday! You came to MY country. You sought protection and freedom and Canada granted you that. Then you turned around and started committing multiple serious crimes. Canadian taxpayers paid to have you serve time in OUR prisons. I'm not sorry, but you have to leave now. If you can't follow the rules our government has created then you're not allowed to be here anymore! And if you get killed back home, that's your problem. You had a chance to make a better life for yourself and you chose to squander it. You'll have plenty of time to ponder your mistakes in the afterlife.

Here's the part where my coworker began to express her views. She said that in Canada we do things differently than other countries. We don't believe in killing those who have committed crimes, no matter how horrendous. If we knowingly force him back to a place where it is unsafe and he will die, that will go against everything Canada stands for.

At least I think that was the point she was trying to make. She was basically saying it was wrong for Canada to deport Mohamud if his life was going to be in danger.

I have no sympathy.

What's the point in keeping him here when all he will be doing is rotting in a jail cell, wasting space and money... OR once they can't legally detain him any longer, he'll be set free on soil he doesn't deserve to walk on.

Who's side are you on?

Carmen Electra Pole = Fail

I previously blogged about how I purchased the Carmen Electra Fitness Pole for $200 online (including shipping and taxes.) Today I tried putting it up with the help of Dave in my mother's basement - it was too short too fit in my apartment.

We set it up. It took a while to get it right. You could tell it was cheaply made. The hardest part was making sure that the pole was tight enough to the ceiling and then locking it in place. For whatever reason, we couldn't keep the pole in the locked position. It kept slipping out of place no matter how much we tightened it.

We ended up over-tightening the pole and damaging the cheap platic part that fits into the base of the pole. So now that I've damaged my pole without ever really getting to use it, I have to go online and see about returning this damn thing and (hopefully) getting a refund or at least a replacement.

I'm disappointed in what happened. I'm usually very good at doing my research and reading reviews on products. I suppose we all make mistakes, but this is such a hassle! If I can get a refund I'm not going to buy another pole online. I'm going to browse through some local Adults Only shoppes and see if I can't get one locally.

On the bright side, at least I got to put on a quick 2 minute showcase for Dave before tearing the piece of shit down.

A Nomad Wish

I have this overwhelming desire to drop everything and leave. I don't know where my cats will stay and I don't know what will happen to all my earthly possessions, but what I do know is that I want to stuff my backpack with provisions and just go. Anywhere! East, west, south, it doesn't matter which direction, I just need to get out of here.

I used to be the type of person who enjoyed a short vacation, not travelling too far away. I liked being at home and the thought of having to uproot my life was an unbearable thought. I never wanted to leave. I never wanted life to change. Now it's all I think about!

People become comfortable with their lives. They enjoy their home. They enjoy their job. They enjoy their social circles. For the most part, they like their lives and they don't want anything different. The thought of having to go away is scary and upsetting.

Then there are the nomads. The drifters. The hitch hikers. They seek adventure and go wherever their feet take them. They don't need a permanent address. They don't need to know where their next paycheck is coming from. They've sold off everything they don't need and are just travelling the globe, sleeping on couches and eating at soup kitchens.

Never in a million years did I want that life until recently. To have no attatchments... such a sweet dream! I can always get another job and buy some new furniture at the thrift store. I can always email my friends and phone my family from wherever I may be. But I can never seek thrills and excitment while living in the same apartment, working for the same company, and talking to the same people day in and day out. I'm ready for more than that.

And once it's all out of my system, I'll settle down. I know being a roamer will where me thin eventually and I'll crave familiarity and stability. I'll get sick and tired of always eating peanut butter sandwhiches and wearing dirty laundry.

If only I could leave tomorrow, I would.

1000 lbs Challenge

Maxwell's Blog reminded me of the summer I met Joel while painting schools in the Seine River School Division. Every summer Joel and his friends enter the 1000 lbs Challenge

The 1000 lbs Challenge:

You must have sex with (as close to) 1000 lbs worth of women during summer. On top of that, there is a point system and extra points are awarded to individuals who perform certain disgusting or unusual sexual acts, or can sleep with a variety of women, ie: Who can sleep with the oldest woman? Twins? Three-some? Red-head? ect...

I asked Joel if they had score cards or something. I can't remember if he said he did, but from what I remember, after hooking up with a chick, you were to guess what her weight was and then add it to your summer tally. And if the woman had anything notable about her, ie: deaf, missing a leg, on her period, let you choke her, whatever, then that was also noted and your peers would allot points for you or something.

It was all very strange and interesting to me.

Joel talked about strategies. If you really wanted to win the challenge bad enough you would forgo all standards and just sleep with the fattest chicks you could possibly find. Or, if you were more about variety and wanted to score the most points you would seek out the oldest and most physically disabled women.

Another great way to score a lot of points and still sleep with attractive looking girls is to make sure they're drunk enough to let you perform disturbing or hilarious sexual acts on them ie: golden shower, the pirate, dirty sanchez ect... You won't add up the pounds very fast, but at least you can say you gave a chick a hot carl in your lifetime.

Every now and then I wonder about this 1000 lbs challenge and if it still continues. I'm sure some group of young men somewhere in the world have something similar going on in their lives. And then I wonder about the women of the world and if there are any women out there participating in The 500 Inches Challenge where they have to sleep with 500 inches of cock in one summer.

That's actually a really funny idea and I am currently giggling to myself at the thought of it. With a man's penis being on average 6 inches long while erect, that's like 84 dudes a girl would have to sleep with. Maybe we'll have to change it to the 100 inches challenge instead.

For the 1000 lbs challenge, even if the guys were to sleep with 100 lbs women, that's only 10 girls. Since most ladies weigh more than that it would probably be less than 10. Is it that hard to sleep with like, 7 girls in one summer?

Now I think I'm thinking too much about this.

Party

I get invited to a lot of events on Facebook. I'd say I probably attend 25% of these events. Of those 25%, 75% of them I leave early or only stay for about an hour at most.

Tonight was no different. I worked at CBC until 10:45pm and then I went down the Exchange District to attend a birthday party for a girl I went to high school with at her art studio.

I showed up wearing what I wore to work: a large black fleece sweater, huge unflattering mom jeans, no make-up, hair not done, and snow runners.

Of course all these super-skinny girls I went to high school who are friends with the birthday girl were there. I haven't seen them since I graduated and I kind of hoped it would stay that way. This is the impression I made on them. I looked like a lesbian.

I think there were real lesbians at the party, so I probably shouldn't use the word lesbian to mean something "bad."

Anyway, I showed up not exactly looking my best and the studio was hot and sort of crowded. People were being arty, men wearing red lipstick and such. People played Twister (the fun game that ties you up in knots.) Bowls of lollipops were being offered.

I'm surprised I stayed 40 minutes.

People I don't know (who somehow know me because they know Dave because he's some sort of freakish social butterfly) make me feel awkward since I don't know who they are, like, at all. I have no recollection of ever meeting them. I'm not the type to forget a face either!

Anyway, I'm home now obviously, blogging like a loser who has nothing else to do on a Saturday night. Except technically it's Sunday since it's past midnight.

Had I gotten dolled up and downed a red bull things would have turned out a lot better.

New Pole

I received my pole in the mail yesterday. I unfortunately haven't been able to set it up because:

A) I don't own a step ladder

B) I don't own power tools

C) My ceiling is too high

Obstacles A and B can easily be remedied since Dave works at a construction company, but C not so much. Dave said he might be able to figure something out, but he hasn't had time to look at the pole yet. That's okay, we're moving out in October anyway... Maybe sooner.

My classes are going well. My arms feel a lot stronger than they used to. My triceps are always sore! It's almost annoying. So far classes only go up to level three, but they've recently introduced a level four, so I'm really excited to one day take that class. I really need to work out my arms though to be strong enough to do the more complicated spins and lifts.
