Iron and Pole Video

I had a pap smear bright and early at 9 am! AWESOME!!!

Not really.

While I was there I mentioned that I'd been feeling really light headed the past couple of weeks. Like, kind of a dizzy, drunk-ish feeling, where I have trouble balancing and I have to hold on to something to keep myself from falling over. I walk into door frames and get blurred vision. My energy is zapped. I have constant daily headaches.

He did a neurological test on me and said I passed and there was nothing seriously wrong with me.

Bob suggested I might be low on iron again. Ding! Ding! Ding! What do we have for him, Johnny?

He's probably correct. I had low iron in college and felt similar then as I do now, minus the lightheadedness. I haven't been eating meat every day and when I do, it's usually chicken. I'll start taking supplements again and see if that helps.

And in other news I began working on my pole video last night. The most important aspect of the video is going to be the song. I cannot pick an ultra-sexy song that will make my video seem too suggestive. On the other hand, I don't want to pick a boring song that will be lame to pole dance to.

Example 1:
Peaches - Fuck The Pain Away
Great song to pole dance to at the strip club, however, inappropriate for my Facebook video.

Example 2:
The Jackson Five - ABC
Great, upbeat song to sing along to while driving your car, however, really lame to pole dance to.

As depicted in the ven diagram below, I need something that's sort of in between.

This isn't as challenging as it may seem because there are a handful of quality songs already in my iTunes that are fit for this video, however, should anyone have any suggestions, let me know!

Mongo's

Here is the much anticipated review of Mongo's Bar and Grill. Last night after work, Bob picked me up from my apartment and whisked me away to an evening filled with mixed vegetables and ice cream. It was fun!

At Mongo's, you are seated and then you go up and grab a bowl and start filling it with any meats and vegetables and sauces and spices you'd like to create your stirfry with. I was pleased with the selection and freshness of foods available. There really were endless possibilities for dishes to create! Plus there was soup and a salad bar!

The only downside is the wait. I didn't think there would be so many families there with kids on a Monday at 8! Once you've piled your bowl high you have to stand in line to wait for it to be grilled. Watching them grill everyone's food was rather boring. The dudes are just stand there grililng everyone's food, talking to each other about whatever.

Also, there was a mix-up with the man's order who was in line in front of me. Someone gave away his food and then the guy came back and said, um, this isn't mine! They tried to give my food away to him and I was like, NO THAT'S MINE! lol

Maybe I didn't say it so urgently, but that's how I felt.

The meal tasted good. If it hadn't I'd only have myself to blame. I know what I would do differently next time I go. I wish I had grabbed more meat and used less cayenne pepper. I grabbed enough noodles, but wish I would have loaded up on a few more vegetables.

Afterward we went to Dairy Queen for blizzards and watched Heavy on A&E.

It's hard to impress me when it comes to restaraunt food. I find a lot of food to be bland and I know I could make the same dish at home except better. However, I give Mongo's four stars because anyone can make themselves a great stir fry if they know what they're doing! I can see how someone may not enjoy their meal if they don't know which meats and vegetables compliment each other and which sauces and spices will enhace their food. The variety was wonderful though and overall I had a great experience.

Ivan Coyote

I understand that I have not been blogging much. The fact is, I haven't been doing much writing; not even journal writing! I wrote 6 draft blogs never to be published. They've been deleted now, but I've recently encountered some new inspiration!

Last night I attended a distinguished lecture titled "Chest Air" given by Ivan Coyote at the University of Winnipeg. Ivan is an exceptional story teller and her job consists of writing, editing, touring around and telling stories, and also to encourage others to find their own voice and tell their own story. I could go on about her, but it would be best to just google her many fine works.

Ivan talked for about half an hour, but it didn't seem that long at all. I wished she would have talked longer actually. Listening to her was entertaining and made me want to start trying to write again.

There were a few things Ivan said that resonated with me that I wanted to pass along to my fellow writers:

Everyone has a different writing discipline. For her, Monday is a writing day. No appointments are to be made on that day. No interruptions. Doors closed. Don't bother her. And on writing days she writes at least 1000 words. They don't have to be 1000 good words, or a 1000 edited words. They just have to written down in some fashion and can be played with later. It's a start. It gets the creativity flowing.

I can't dedicate a whole day to writing, but I can definitely allot a chunk of time in the evenings to write maybe even 500 words. Don't delete what you wrote afterward! I don't like deleting things I've written that I hate because after time has passed and I can look at it with fresh eyes I might see some value in what I wrote. I might see a little something I can run with. I regret deleting those 6 blogs without even looking at them. There could have been gold in there!

Ivan posed a few questions to us as well. Who decides which stories get to be told, or written down? Who decides which stories are important and valuable and worth reading?

You can write stories for yourself, for your memoires, for your family, for future generations, or for a wide demographic of readers across the continent! Not everyone can be a writer, but everyone has a story and I think those stories deserve to be told. I think we should all sit down and tell each other stories!
